Thankful for Obedience: The Quiet Decisions That Changed My Life
Some of the most impactful decisions I’ve made in my life didn’t come with clarity first—they came with a yes. A quiet yes. A trembling yes. A yes that trusted God more than my understanding.
Today I want to talk about something that doesn’t always get celebrated the way it should—obedience. Not the loud, spotlight kind. Not the kind that gets applause or instant results. I’m talking about the quiet yeses. The unseen decisions. The moments where it would’ve been easier to choose comfort, familiarity, or approval—but you chose God instead.
And if I’m honest, that’s exactly why I’m thankful.
Why obedience deserves gratitude
When I look back over my life, the most beneficial decisions I’ve made weren’t always the easiest ones. They were the ones rooted in obedience. The ones where God asked me to trust Him without giving me the full picture. The ones where I had to walk away, slow down, surrender, or start over—even when it didn’t make sense to anyone else.
Obedience didn’t always feel good in the moment. Sometimes it felt lonely. Sometimes it felt costly. Sometimes it felt like I was falling behind. But what I see now is this: obedience was protecting me while positioning me.
The benefits I see now
I’m thankful for obedience because it kept my heart tender when life tried to harden me.
I’m thankful because it redirected me when I would’ve stayed stuck out of fear or familiarity.
I’m thankful because it taught me how to hear God’s voice—and trust it.
Obedience benefited me by building discernment instead of dependence on people. It produced peace instead of pressure. It helped me value alignment over applause. And most importantly, it kept me close to God when I could’ve drifted trying to prove something I never needed to prove in the first place.
Obedience didn’t rush me—it rooted me
There were seasons where obedience looked like slowing down when everyone else was speeding up. Saying no when I wanted to say yes. Choosing healing when distraction felt easier. Obedience taught me that growth isn’t about doing more—it’s about becoming more rooted. Rooted in truth. Rooted in identity. Rooted in God’s timing.
And the fruit of that? Stability. Clarity. Confidence. Not because life got easier—but because my foundation got stronger.
Why I’m still choosing obedience
I’m thankful not just for the obedience behind me, but for the obedience ahead of me. Because now I know this: every obedient decision compounds. It builds on itself. What felt small then became significant later. What felt like a delay was actually divine preparation.
Obedience has benefited me by shaping who I am, not just what I’ve accomplished. And I wouldn’t trade that for anything.
Thankful Tea means we pause and practice gratitude
So let’s do this together.
Today’s gratitude practice:
Write down three obedient decisions you’re thankful you made, even if they didn’t make sense at the time. Then write one way you can see the fruit of that obedience now.
(If you want a dedicated place to reflect on this regularly, I’ll link my gratitude journal so you can keep honoring your obedience and God’s faithfulness.)
Affirm Yourself Girl
My obedience is producing fruit I may not always see immediately, but I trust God with the outcome.
Let’s walk together
Thank you for being here. Thank you for honoring the quiet yeses. Thank you for choosing alignment over approval. My prayer is that this encourages you to stop doubting the obedient decisions you’ve made—and to trust that God has been working behind the scenes the entire time.
May gratitude remind you that obedience is never wasted.
May peace confirm that God’s hand has been on your choices.
May you continue to say yes—even when the reward hasn’t fully shown up yet.
